Our Autonomous System issue: a step forward in the growth of FibreConnect

14 February 2025 | Insights, News

We are pleased to announce an important milestone in our growth journey: the RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens), the body responsible for the allocation and management of IP resources in Europe, has officially assigned us our Autonomous System (AS) number: 213462.

This recognition represents a crucial step for FibreConnect, consolidating our presence in the telecommunications industry and strengthening our operational autonomy. Indeed, the Autonomous System number constitutes our “digital footprint” on the Internet, enabling us to directly and efficiently manage network traffic.

The advantages of the Autonomous System

Obtaining an AS brings numerous strategic and operational benefits:

  1. Control over routing and connectivity
With our AS, we can directly manage the routing of IP traffic through the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), optimizing routes in terms of latency, cost and reliability.
  2. Independence and resilience
Having our own AS means being able to use public IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) without depending on other providers, increasing flexibility and redundancy in the choice of peers and transits.
  3. Peering and cost optimization
The ability to establish direct peering with other ASs enables reduced dependence on commercial transits, optimizing interconnection expenses and improving overall network performance.
  4. Security and attack mitigation
An AS of our own allows us to implement advanced security policies, such as the use of RPKI and BGP filtering, reducing the risks of route hijacking and other cyber threats.
  5. Identity and recognizability in the industry
The awarding of an AS gives the company greater authority, facilitating collaborations with other operators and strengthening our presence at Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) and connectivity consortia.

Next steps: the activation of the SD-WAN platform.

Obtaining our Autonomous System represents just one step in our growth. The next goal will be the activation of the SD-WAN platform, which will enable us to offer virtual private network solutions globally, further expanding our service portfolio.

A significant milestone for a company that, with only three years in business, continues to consolidate its position in the telecommunications industry.
