Fiber optics: thanks to the partnership between Estracom and FibreConnect, Tuscany becomes the region with the highest number of Industrial Areas equipped with an ultra-wideband network.
Rome, October 16, 2024
Estracom, an Estra Group company and operator of TLC services, and FibreConnect an independent operator of ultra-broadband telecommunications services for Internet service providers in Italy’s Industrial and Artisan Areas, announce the results of the collaboration started a year ago.
Thanks to this strategic partnership, designed to accelerate the development of the FTTP infrastructure and thus offer very high-speed connections in almost all the Industrial and Artisan Areas of the Tuscany Region, as many as 18,675 companies distributed in 56 AIAs are now reached by fiber optics and are therefore enabled to use connections with guaranteed and symmetrical bandwidth up to 10 Gbps.
An infrastructural implementation that makes Antonio Meucci’s homeland the region that guarantees the highest level of digitization to its industrial fabric. With a homogeneity and capillarity of spread of industrial districts that is unique in the country, in fact, the partnership between Estracom and FibreConnect provides small and medium-sized artisanal and manufacturing companies, the flagship of Made in Italy and in particular of the Region of Tuscany, with the fundamental infrastructure to compete in markets around the world and develop smart technologies that maximize the benefits for the entire production chain.
An achievement that contributes significantly to accelerating copper switch-off, an EU target for 2030, by promoting the transition to more modern and sustainable technologies.
Francesco Macrì, Executive Chairman of Estra, said, “The ecological transition is a priority for the entire Estra Group. The partnership started a year ago between Estracom and FibreConnect goes exactly in this direction, allowing Tuscany to accelerate in the path of copper switch-off and its replacement with more modern and sustainable technologies. A year later, the data speak of an agreement that is certainly a winner both from this point of view and in terms of increasing the competitiveness of businesses in the area, which will be able to continue on their path of digitalization.”
“Investing in SME innovation means believing in the potential of the territory, and our goal is to make sure that as many businesses as possible can benefit from the advantages of fiber optics, regardless of their geographical location,” says Franco Fabbriciani, Co-Founder and General Manager of FibreConnect.“This agreement is a concrete example of how collaboration and the ability to work as a system can be key elements for the growth and competitiveness of the economy of territories.”
Fabio Niccolai, general manager of Estracom, said, “Ensuring our territory, made up of strategic production areas for the entire country, increasingly fast, efficient and modern services is the goal that guides Estracom’s strategic action. The partnership with FibreConnect has allowed us to accelerate along this path, modernizing the technological infrastructure available to many Tuscan businesses. At the end of this first year, therefore, the balance is more than positive, and with the continuation of this path we are confident that we will be able to further increase the capillarity of the network.”
Tuscany is a region that boasts as many as 15 manufacturing districts, of which the main ones in terms of Local Units and employees are Prato, San Miniato, Lucca and Arezzo.
Companies in these areas, along with many others, can now rely on advanced connectivity, which is essential for the innovation and competitiveness of their businesses and as an enabling factor for the opportunities offered by Industry 5.0.
These are the main digital services available to businesses: FTTP links, ultra-wideband data links with dedicated fiber optics, SD-WAN technology networks, cloud services, network security services, IT security services, IOT services, and industrial process automation and optimization services related to Industry 4.0 development.
Of particular relevance are the services available for the territory that contribute, in a relevant way to the security and transformation of cities: AI video surveillance (also for ecological crime control), integrated application in a smart city perspective of available connectivity technologies and monitors for urban quality of life, integrated sensor + edge computing solutions for air quality / river level / etc., urban space control for security, air quality, etc. through integrated sensor + video surveillance AI technologies.
